Is a glitch really an easter egg?
We go with the hunter's definition, not the purist's. If it's hidden, surprising, or a wink from the developers, it's in. Glitches and exploits have their own types so you can filter them out if you're a purist.
Someone already posted my find. Can I still get credit?
Yes. That's why there are two credits. Documented by is whoever wrote it up here first and never changes. Discovered by is whoever actually found it, whenever, wherever. Claim it on the egg with dated proof (an old video, a forum post, an archived tweet) and a moderator will check it. A verified discovery is worth +100, five times what documenting pays.
What if the original finder isn't on the site?
Credit them anyway, as an outside credit with a link to the source. If they turn up later they can claim it and the +100 goes to them. We also ask the Wayback Machine to save the source so the proof survives even if the forum doesn't.
Why did my egg get merged into another one?
Two pages for one egg splits the record. The earlier post keeps the page and yours now redirects there. Your work isn't wasted: add whatever the original is missing, claim the discovery credit if it's yours, and your next find gets its own page.
How do points work?
Documenting an egg is +20. Finishing the write-up (a real description of 100+ characters, how to find it, a type, and evidence) is +10 more, automatically. A moderator verifying it is +10. A moderator featuring it as an example of a great write-up is +25. A verified discovery credit is +100. Every upvote you get is +1, up to 50 per egg. Reports that get accepted are +3, rejected ones −1. Points are a public ledger, so anyone can check any point on the site.
Can I lose points?
Only by losing the thing that earned them. A removed or merged egg gives back everything it earned. Gutting a finished write-up gives back its +10 (restore it and it comes back, once). Taking back an upvote returns the +1. A junk report costs 1. Nobody edits scores by hand, admins included.
Who runs a basket?
Volunteer moderators from that game's own community. Want to moderate a game you know inside out? Once you have 10 eggs in it, email legal@wildwasteland.com. Mods get verification powers, a queue, and their name on the basket.
What's the deal with the timestamps?
The "documented" time on every egg is written by the database and can't be edited by anyone. Not the poster, not moderators, not us. That's the point of the whole site.
Where do the backdrops come from?
The blurred picture behind a basket is official art from the game database, or a screenshot a hunter posted as evidence. Any signed-in hunter can change which one it is, from those choices only. Nothing gets uploaded, so nothing weird can end up back there.
Do samples count?
Yes. A sample is a piece of one record hidden inside another, which is exactly what this site is for. Post the egg in the basket of the track that did the sampling, and connect it to the track it lifted from as "samples" (or "interpolates" if it was re-played rather than lifted, or "covers" for a full re-recording). The original's basket then reads "sampled by", and the web draws the line. Songs get their own baskets, separate from albums, because sampling is track by track. Link both videos with timestamps, the sample and the original at the moment it was lifted, and the egg page plays them back to back.
