In 1998 nobody had seen a game reach out of the screen like that. The famous solution, plugging the controller into port two so he can't read your inputs, is part of the same trick.
Play up to the Psycho Mantis boss on the Shadow Moses first floor. Have Castlevania: Symphony of the Night or Suikoden saves on the memory card for the fullest speech. When he starts dodging everything, move the controller to port 2.
