Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, Start on the title screen and Contra gives you thirty lives instead of three. Kazuhisa Hashimoto put the code in Gradius two years earlier (1986) because the game was too hard to test; Contra made it famous.

How to find it

On the title screen, before pressing Start, enter Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, B, A, then Start (two players: B, A, Select, Start). The lives counter shows 30.
